Women's Tennis Visits Houston Sunday

HOUSTON, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team (2-11) plays their final match before hosting the Great West Conference Championships on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. against the University of Houston Cougars (9-7) at John E. Hoff Courts
 
The Series
 
This is the seventh meeting all-time between the Broncs and Cougars in a series that dates back to 2002. The Broncs are looking for their first win. Last season these two teams met in Houston, a 6-1 win for the Cougars.
 
Last Time Out
 
The Broncs are coming off of a 7-0 loss at No. 36 Rice on Saturday. The Broncs' closest match came at No. 2 singles, where, after losing the first set 6-0, Wanda Beguelin won three games while dropping the second set 6-3. Suncica Strkic and Blanca Garcia Izaguirre each won a game in the second set of their matches, but the Owls took the rest of the singles with double bagels. In doubles, the No. 3 duo of Izaguirre and Cindy Sands won two games to fall 8-2, while the Owls took the other two matches 8-0.
 
Scouting the Cougars
 
The Cougars are coming off of a 7-0 loss to No. 31 Tulsa on March 31.
 
The Cougars are led in singles by Maja Kazimieruk and Giorgia Pozzan, who each have 11 wins. Kazimieruk is 6-1 in the No. 6 spot. While Pozzan is 8-4 at No. 1. The Cougars have a winning record at five different positions.
 
In doubles, the Cougars are 9-6 at No. 1 and No. 3 but 7-8 and No. 2. The most consistent duo has been Pozzan and Bryony Hunter, who are 7-5, all at the No. 1 position.
