FORT WORTH – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team fell to the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs 73-47 on Sunday at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
Sophomore
KaeLynn Boyd led the Broncs (5-4) with 14 points with four rebounds and two steals. Junior
Brittany Bush recorded her third double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and two steals.
Three Horned Frogs (6-3) reached double-figures in scoring, led by
Natalie Ventress, who scored 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc, with five rebounds and three steals.
Zahna Medley scored 11 points with five assists.
Donielle Breaux scored 11 points with five rebounds.
Boyd scored the Broncs' first eight points to keep the game close in the first five minutes, hitting threes to tie the game at 3-3 and bring the Broncs within 9-6. She also made a layup to keep the Broncs within 11-8. Bush hit a layup with 13 minutes left to bring the Broncs within 14-10, but Breaux hit a free throw 52 seconds later to kick off a 21-1 run over a span of 9:30 as the Horned Frogs went up 35-11.
The Broncs scored the final seven points of the first half on a jumper by Boyd, a three by junior
Cherrell Price and a layup by freshman
Shawnte' Goff to pull within 39-19.
The Broncs brought the deficit under 20 midway through the second half when a Price three made it 51-32, but that's as close as they got.
The Broncs return home on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they host UT Arlington at the UTPA Fieldhouse. Doors open at 6.
