CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – The University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis team (4-8) will play their fourth match in as many days as they visit the UNC Charlotte 49ers (8-5) on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
The Broncs
The Broncs have had their greatest singles success at the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 positions, going 5-6 at No. 6 and 4-6 at No. 5 and 4-7 at No. 1.
Thomas-Orestis Panoulas has played all 10 of his matches at No. 1, going 3-7. Adding in his 4-4 tournament record, he is tied with
Ricardo Hopker for the best record at 7-11.
Hopker has the Broncs' other win at No. 1.
Victor Alves has the best singles record in dual play with a record of 4-5.
In doubles, the pair of Hopker and
Chetan Panditi has the best doubles record going 5-2, including 4-1 at No. 2. The duo of
Sebastien Job and
Alejandro Sanoja is 3-5, including 3-4 at the No. 1 spot.
Alves and Panoulas are 4-3, including going 4-2 at No. 3.
Scouting the 49ers
The 49ers are 45-31 (.592) in doubles this season including 21-14 (.600) in dual play. Alex Calott and Paul Cisti are 3-0 at No. 1 but 2-3 at No. 2. Jordi Massalle Ferrer and Jack Williams are 7-0 in doubles this season including 2-0 at No.1 and 2-0 at No. 2 during dual play. Kamil Khalil and Krzystof Kwasniewicz are 9-2 including 5-1 at No. 3.
The 49ers are 98-73 (.573) in singles including 50-30 (.625) in dual play. They have had their biggest success in the No. 3 singles spot where as a team they are 10-3 and where Alex Calott (3-0), Paul Cisti (2-0), and Forrest Edwards (2-0) are undefeated. Jordi Massalle Ferrer has the best singles record at 20-5 including, 10-3 in dual play.
Series History
This is the first-ever meeting between the Broncs and the 49ers.
Last Time Out
The Broncs lost to the USC-Upstate Spartans 0-7 at the Upstate Tennis Complex. It was the third match in three days for the Broncs as they continue their road trip.
Freshmen Flare
Felix Hasselberg made his dual singles debut against Schreiner on March 2, winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
Joseph Bishop played at No. 5 for the first time, winning 6-0, 6-1. The two teamed up in doubles, winning 8-1 at No. 3 in what was Bishop's dual doubles debut.
Awesome Alves
Junior
Victor Alves got off to a hot start in dual play, going 2-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles over the Broncs' first four matches. Alves had a 4-0 weekend during the Broncs' first two home matches on Feb. 1 and 3, teaming with Panoulas to win twice at No. 3 doubles, and then picking up a win at No. 5 singles against Laredo Community College and at No. 6 against UTSA. Alves was the first to finish in singles both times. For his efforts, Alves earned Southland Conference Player of the Week honors.
Home Sweet Home
The Broncs are 4-2 at home this season with four matches remaining.
This is the most home matches the Broncs have had in a single season since the turn of the century.

Globetrotters
The Broncs have eight student-athletes on the roster representing seven different countries, including the United States of America, Brazil, Belgium, Greece, India, Indonesia and Sweden. The lone American Bronc is Sanoja, who calls Mission home.
