EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team was shutout 3-0 at the hands of the Lamar University Cardinals Saturday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium on the second day of the Al Ogletree Classic.
The Cardinals (16-3) got on the board in the top of the first. With two outs, Darian Johnson walked and then stole second base. Brad Picha then followed with an RBI single to left field scoring Johnson from second making it 1-0.
Jayson McKinley made the one-run lead stand up as he came on in relief for Lance Warren, who pitched four scoreless innings to start the ball game. McKinley (2-0) pitched five scoreless innings allowing just one hit and striking out two as he picked up the win.
Dylan Badura (1-3) took the tough-luck loss after pitching five and two-third innings and allowing just one run on six hits.
Lamar added two more runs in the top of the eighth against
Luis Flores that made it 3-0 before McKinley closed it out in the ninth giving the Cardinals the win.
The Broncs and Cardinals will wrap up their three-game series Sunday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Matt Daniels (0-1) is scheduled to face Jonathan Dziedzic (2-1) with the first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
