EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team completed the three-game sweep of the Arlington Baptist Patriots with a 15-3 victory in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The game ended after six and a half innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
The Broncs (7-11) scored their season-high 15 runs on a season-high 15 hits and a season-high eight walks to go with a season-high nine stolen bases.
Derek Hagy went 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored.
Shane Ammon went 3-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored and an RBI and has now reached base in 10-straight plate appearances.
The Broncs used three big innings to plate their runs, scoring four in the second, four in the third and seven in the fifth. The Broncs batted around in each of those innings.
In the second,
Riley Goulding and Hagy each hit two-run singles.
In the third, a run scored on a wild pitch, another on a Goulding groundout, and then the last two on a Hagy single.
All of the runs in the fifth scored with one out. Hagy and PSJA High School alum
Bryan Ramirez singled to knock out Patriots (9-27) starter
Caleb Sims.
Vincent Gerhard came in and walked four-straight batters, the last three of which forced in runs.
Jacob Huckabay then hit a two-run double and
Shane Klemcke hit a two-run single to cap the scoring.
That made a winner of
Luis Flores (1-0), who pitched an inning and two-thirds of perfect relief.
The Broncs are back in action on Saturday, March 30 when they host Jackson State in a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. Gates open at 2:00.
