EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team didn't allow an earned run in a 10-1 seven-inning victory over the Chicago State University Cougars in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Broncs (14-15, 5-1 GWC) starter
Luis Flores (2-0) pitched five innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Roma alum
Isaac Martinez finished the game with two hitless innings, striking out a career-high five batters.
Cougars (4-21, 1-5 Great West Conference) starter
James Tucker (2-3) pitched a 1-2-3 first inning, but in the second,
Will Klausing led off with a liner off of Tucker's leg for an infield-single.
Jacob Huckabay and
Chris Torres followed with singles to set-up an RBI-double by
Aaron Moore. After a
Shane Klemcke walk,
Riley Goulding hit an RBI-double,
Derek Hagy hit an RBI-groundout and
Shane Ammon came up with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0.
The Broncs added three runs in the third on three walks, an error, a passed ball, a groundout and an RBI-single by Goulding, who also drove in the Broncs' final run in the fifth. Goulding finished 2-for-3 with a career-high tying four RBI.
The Broncs and Cougars continue this four-game series with game two of this doubleheader at approximately 5:30 p.m.
