EDISON, New Jersey – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team improved to 2-0 at the National Invitation Tennis Tournament, hosted by NJIT, with a 6-1 win over the Chicago State University Cougars on Saturday at Thomas Edison Park.
The Broncs (6-11) face 2012 Great West Conference Champion NJIT, who also went 2-0 on Saturday, for the tournament championship on Sunday at 9 a.m.
The Broncs swept through doubles for the second-straight match as
Dana Nazarova and
Reegan Greenwood beat
Sabrine Navarro and
Viviene Noel 8-2 at No. 1 while
Didi Fatchikova and
Wanda Beguelin defeated
Mia Townsell and
Mysta Townsell 8-0 at No. 2.
The Broncs immediately went up 3-0 when the Cougars (5-19) defaulted at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
The Broncs got all three of their singles wins in straight sets, as
Manon Lavrijssen beat Navarro 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2,
Reegan Greenwood defeated Mysta Townsell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, and Roma alum
Julia Perez, playing at No. 4 for the first time in her career, downed Mia Townsell 6-0, 6-2.
The Cougars got their lone point at No. 1, where Viviene Noel defeated
Dana Nazarova 6-3, 5-7 (10-6).
