GREELEY, Colorado –
Derek Hagy extended his hitting streak to 12 games, but the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell to the University of Northern Colorado Bears 16-3 in seven innings in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday at Jackson Field.
Hagy went 1-for-4 and is now 18-for-46 (.391) during the streak.
The Bears (23-22, 14-7 Great West Conference) led 1-0 going into the fourth, when they exploded for 11 runs on eight hits, four walks, three wild pitches and a passed ball. With one out,
Derek Baum homered.
Brook Schneider followed with a single and moved to second on a passed ball.
Landon Moseley walked and then
Ryan Yamane hit an RBI-single, moving Mosely to third, from where he scored on a wild pitch.
Jensen Park then hit a single to knock out
Dusten Knight (4-3).
Luis Flores came in and allowed a two-run double to
Nick Miller, a walk to
Colby Harrison, a two-run double to
Andrew Coffman, and a walk to
Ben Netzel before getting relieved by
Bryan Maxwell. After a pair of wild pitches scored a run, Baum reached on a fielder's choice and was pinch run for by
Rob Cashel, who stole second. Schneider walked to load the bases, and then, one out later. Yamane hit a two-run double and Park hit an RBI-single to cap the inning with the score 12-0.
The Broncs (24-24, 14-7 Great West Conference) got one back in the fifth on an RBI infield-single by PSJA alum
Bryan Ramirez, but the Bears scored three in the fifth. The Broncs got two more in the sixth on an RBI-double by
Alex Howe and an RBI-groundout by
Dillon Engelhart.
Josh Tinnon (5-2) started for the Bears, allowing three runs on seven hits with one strikeout in six innings.
Game two of the doubleheader is scheduled to get underway at approximately 4 p.m.
