Women's Tennis Opens Season With Loss to No. 19 Baylor

WACO – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team opened their dual season with a 1-6 loss to the No. 19 Baylor Bears on Saturday at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
 
The Bears (3-0) got things started in doubles action as the team of Victoria Kisialeva and Blair Shankle defeated the Broncs' (0-1) team of Christel Amsallem and Katia Stavroulaki 6-0. Baylor then clinched the doubles point after the duo of Abby Stainback and Alicia Robinson beat Didi Fatchikova and Mariana Ranzahuer 6-2.
 
The Broncs earned their only point of the match when Wanda Beguelin defeated Makenzie Craft 7-6, 6-4 in the No. 4 singles position. Reegan Greenwood dropped the first set, 2-6, to Abby Stainback in the No. 6 singles spot but bounced back in the second set with a 6-3 win before falling 1-0 in the tiebreaker.
 
The Bears took the other four singles matches in straight sets.
 
The Broncs are back in action on Jan. 24 when they host the University of Maryland Baltimore County at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
