Men's Tennis Hosts Oral Roberts and Prairie View A&M Saturday

EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team wraps up their three-match home stand when they host the Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles at 10 a.m. and the Prairie View A&M University Panthers at 3 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center on Saturday.
 
Admission is free.
 
Last Time Out
The Broncs (0-2) fell 0-7 to the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns in their home opener on Jan. 25.
 
The Cajuns started off doubles with a win as the team of Damian Farinola and Edgar Lopez beat the Broncs' duo of Ivar Aramburu and Mauricio Fosado 6-2. The team of Sebastien Job and Alejandro Sanoja played a strong match against Rick de Groot and Jake Wynan but fell 6-4 giving the doubles point to the Cajuns.
 
In singles, the Cajuns won all six matches to clinch the match but Sanoja and Chetan Panditi were able to take their matches to tie breakers. Panditi dropped his first set 2-6 before taking the second set 6-2 but he dropped the tiebreaker 1-6. Sanoja took the upper hand on Jarred Wynan as he took the first set 6-3. He dropped the second set 3-6 before falling in the tiebreaker 5-7.
 
Scouting the Golden Eagles
The Golden Eagles (0-3) have not played a match since Jan. 18 when they lost 3-4 to South Dakota State.
 
Parker Allen and Fabian Zierleyn have posted the only singles wins for the Golden Eagles. Allen picked up his win in the No. 4 singles spot while Zierleyn picked up his win in the No. 2 singles spot.
 
The Golden Eagles have four doubles victories. The team of Zierleyn and Jason Mechali has two victories in the No. 1 doubles spot. Braxton Bates and Michael Sosnowski have their two victories in the No. 3 doubles spot.  
 
Scouting the Panthers
The Panthers are 0-2 on the season after falling to UMBC and Rice 0-7 last weekend.
 
The Panthers return six from last season's team that went 8-13 and 5-0 in the SWAC. They lost Ronald Chidzikwe, who posted 11 wins in 2013, but they return junior Jonathan Dingle, who went 7-7 in the dual match season. Junior Daniel Vasquez posted an 8-12 record, while going 5-6 in the No. 5 singles spot and they also return senior Craig Wiltz, who went 8-10 last season while going 7-4 in the No. 3 singles spot.
 
Senior David Aldaz returns to the Rio Grande Valley. He calls McAllen his hometown.
 
The Series
The Broncs are 6-8 all-time against the Golden Eagles in a series that dates back to 1969. The Broncs and Golden Eagles faced off against each other last season in Fort Worth and it was the Broncs who came away with the 5-2 victory.
 
The Broncs are 11-0 all-time against the Panthers in a series that dates back to 1986. Both teams faced each other last season as the Broncs swept the Panthers 7-0 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
Globetrotters
The Broncs have eight student-athletes representing six countries including, Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, India, Mexico and the United States. Sanoja is from the Rio Grande Valley as he calls Mission home.
 
Next Up
The Broncs hit the road to face No. 63 Arkansas on Friday February 7 at 1:30 p.m.
