Box ScoreEDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team fell to the No. 6 University of Texas Longhorns 72-45 on Wednesday at the Frank Erwin Center.
Sophomore
Shawnte' Goff led the Broncs (4-3) in scoring for the sixth time in seven games with 15 points.
Kelsey Lang led the Longhorns (4-0) with 20 points on 10-of-13 shooting with seven rebounds (four offensive) and two blocks.
Brady Sanders finished with 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Tasia Foman also had 10 points while going 8-for-10 from the line.
Lang hit three early baskets to give the Longhorns a 9-0 lead before senior
Brittany Bush got the Broncs on the board with a jumper.
Empress Davenport responded with two free throws and a jumper, but freshman
Hildur Björg Kjartansdóttir hit a jumper to keep the Broncs within nine. After layups by
Nneka Enemkpali and Lang, Bush brought the Broncs within 17-6 on a hook shot in the lane.
Goff hit her first basket with 10:01 remaining in the first half to make it 21-8, and then followed that up five and a half minutes later with a layup to make it 26-10.
The Broncs hit back-to-back baskets for the first time when senior
Tonisha Walker made a three before senior
T'Ondria Nolen turned a steal into a layup to make it 30-15 with 2:12 to go.
The Broncs were down 17 at the start of the second, but battled back to within 13 on multiple occasions, including 53-41 on a three-point play by senior
Cherrell Price to cap a 6-0 run with 5:47 remaining, but the Longhorns responded with a 9-0 run to push the game out of reach.
The Broncs are back in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Houston Baptist at the UTPA Fieldhouse. Doors open at 1.
