Men's Basketball Falls at St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team came back from down 13 to pull within one before falling to the Saint Louis University Billikens 75-69 on Wednesday at Chaifetz Arena.
 
Sophomore Janari Joesaar led the Broncs (5-5) with 26 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-7 from behind the arc, plus 10-of-11 from the line, to go with six rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal. Freshman Dan Kimasa posted his second double-double with a career-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting and 10 rebounds. Senior St. Louis-native Shaquille Boga scored 13 points with three rebounds and four assists.
 
Mike Crawford led the Billikens (6-5) with 19 points while hitting a trio of three-pointers and going 8-for-10 from the line. Ash Yacoubou scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting to go with eight rebounds and three assists. Austin McBroom scored 12 points while also hitting three three-pointers.
 
Junior Everett Osborne hit an early three, but the Billikens hit their first five shots, including three baskets and a free throw by Yacoubou, to go up 13-4.
 
The Billikens went up by took their largest leads at 19-6 on a pair of free throws by Milik Yarbrough, and 21-8 on a jumper by Yacoubou, but a three by Boga with 9:22 remaining sparked a 16-4 run as the Broncs pulled within 25-24 five minutes later. Boga also hit a jumper during the run, while Joesaar nailed a pair of threes and two free throws.
 
The Billikens responded with a 13-2 run to go up 38-26 on a layup by Yarbrough in the opening seconds of the second half, but Joesaar hit a three and a layup as the Broncs scored the next seven points to pull within 38-33.
 
The Broncs were still within five at 42-37 on a jumper by Osborne when a John Manning layup and a three-point play by Marcus Bartley pushed the Billikens' lead back out to 10.
 
The Billikens still led by 10 at 49-39 when Kimasa hit a jumper, Boga nailed a three and Joesaar converted a three-point play to make it a two-point game with 11:50 remaining.
 
The Broncs pulled within one six minutes later on three free throws by Joesaar to make it 64-63, and again on a Boga jumper to make it 66-65, but that's as close as they got.
 
The Broncs are back in action on Friday at 8:01 p.m. when they visit Creighton. The game will be televised nationally on Fox Sports 2, which can be found on Dish Network Channel 397, DirecTV Channel 618, AT&T U-Verse Channels 651 (SD) and 1651 (HD), and Verizon FiOS channel 84.
