Women's Tennis to Face Incarnate Word Sunday

SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis continues on the road when they face the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Clarence Mabry Tennis Center.
 
Last Time Out
The Broncs (1-3) are coming off of a 3-4 loss to the Texas State University Bobcats on Saturday.
 
The Bobcats took the early advantage taking the doubles point but the Broncs did pick up a doubles victory as Christel Amsallem and Wanda Beguelin closed out doubles with an 8-7 win over Jessica Kahts and Ana Laura Gutierrez at No.1 doubles.
 
Texas State then took the first three singles matches to clinch the match but the Broncs finished strong as they took the final three singles matches. Reegan Greenwood took her match at No. 6 singles to three sets as she defeated Eva Dench 6-2, 6-7, 10-8. Amsallem opened with a 6-2 first set victory over Katy Collins but then dropped the second set 4-6 before picking up the tiebreaker 12-10. Katia Stavroulaki closed the match out with a win over Shannon Beckett at No. 3 singles as she won 6-7, 6-4, 10-6.
 
Scouting the Cardinals
The Cardinals are 0-3 on the season and are coming off of a 6-1 loss to Midwestern State on Saturday.
 
The Cardinals have four with one win in dual matches this season with Jennifer Betancourt, Ivana Katavic, Kelsey Reblin and Taryn Strahi have record wins.
 
They have one doubles win as the team of Betancourt and Sarah Savedra are 1-0 at No. 2 doubles.
 
Including Midwestern State, the Cardinals have losses to UTSA and St. Mary's.
 
The Series
The Broncs are 1-1 all-time against the Cardinals in a series that dates back to 1990. The last times both teams faced each other was back in 2001.
 
Globetrotters
The Broncs currently have 10 student-athletes on the roster representing eight different countries including Bulgaria, Canada, England, France, Greece, Mexico, Slovakia and the United States.
 
Next Up
The Broncs continue to be on the road as they travel to Valparaiso on Feb. 21.
