Women's Tennis Faces Chicago State Saturday

CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis faces off against the Chicago State Cougars on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the H-R Racquet Club.
 
Last Time Out
The Broncs (3-3) defeated the Valparaiso Crusaders 6-1 on Friday as they swept through doubles.
 
Wanda Beguelin and Christel Amsallem defeated Kristin Zakiewicz and Kaitlyn Hamel 8-7 (7-2) at No. 1 doubles. The duo of Reegan Greenwood won at No. 2 doubles as they beat Paige Heuer and Megan Barthels 8-2 and Didi Fatchikova and Mariana Ranzahuer beat Michele Fredlake and Morgan Paras 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
 
In singles, In singles, the Crusaders (1-9) got their lone point at No. 3 singles but the Broncs won the rest of the matches in straight sets. Fatchikova defeated Hamel at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0 while Beguelin beat Zakiewicz 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
 
Katia Stavroulaki kept things going for the Broncs as she defeated Barthels 6-0, 6-1. Amasallem then defeated Fredlake 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and Greenwood closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Morgan Paras at No. 6 singles.
 
Scouting the Cougars
The Cougars are (3-5) on the season are coming off of a 4-2 loss to Southern Illinois. They have defeated Wright State, University of Dayton and South Dakota on the season.
 
Kirsa Utech leads the Cougars with a 5-3 singles record in dual match play at No. 1 singles. Faith Huckabee has a 4-2 record in singles competition as she has wins at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles positions.
 
Utech and Karyn Emeralda have a 5-0 record in doubles competition as they have wins in all three of the doubles spots.
 
The Series
The Broncs are 2-2 all-time against the Cougars in series that dates back to 2009. The last time they faced each other was on April 20, 2013 when the Broncs defeated the Cougars 6-1 at the National Invitation Tennis Tournament.
 
Globetrotters
The Broncs currently have 10 student-athletes on the roster representing eight different countries including Bulgaria, Canada, England, France, Greece, Mexico, Slovakia and the United States.
 
Next Up
The Broncs are back in action on Sunday at 9 a.m. when they face off against South Dakota State University.
