Men's Basketball Falls at Idaho in Overtime

MOSCOW, Ida. – After playing a double overtime thriller in their first meeting, the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team fell to the University of Idaho Vandals 70-63 in a single overtime on Saturday at the Cowan Spectrum.
 
Junior Shaquille Boga and sophomore Shaquille Hines led the Broncs (6-19, 2-8 WAC) with 15 points and six rebounds each. Boga added five assists while Hines dished out three. Freshman Alex Majewski scored a career-high 12 points while making a career-high four baskets in 10 attempts, including a career-high three three-pointers in seven tries. Graduate student Javorn Farrell scored 11 points with six rebounds and four assists. Senior Josh Cleveland finished with eight points on 4-of-7 shooting and four rebounds.
 
Stephen Madison led the Vandals (19-14, 4-6 WAC) with 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including 2-of-5 from behind the arc, with 13 rebounds. Sekou Wiggs scored 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting with eight rebounds and three assists. Connor Hill, Mike Scott and Bira Seck all finished with nine points.
 
Majewski made a pair of early threes as the Broncs opened the game on a 10-2 run. The Broncs led for most of the first 23 minutes, with the exception of one tie, but early in the second half, a Joe Kammerer layup gave the Vandals their first lead at 32-31.
 
The game became tight for the rest of regulation, with the lead switching hands multiple times. The Broncs trailed 53-52 with less than two minutes remaining, but a Farrell jumper and a Boga layup put the Broncs up three with 16 seconds left. Madison responded with a deep three seven seconds later to tie the game and force overtime.
 
Cleveland made a layup on the opening possession of overtime to give the Broncs a 58-56 lead, but after a Wiggs layup, Hill converted a four-point play to make it 62-58. Farrell followed with a dunk to make it a two-point game, but Wiggs made a layup and Madison made a three to put the Vandals up 67-60 with 42 seconds left. Boga knocked down a three to make it a four-point game, but Seck and Hill combined to go 3-for-4 from the line to ice the game.
 
The Broncs kick-off a three-game home stand on Thursday at 7 p.m. when they host Chicago State during the third annual Challenge of the Deans at the UTPA Fieldhouse. Doors open at 6.
