Women's Tennis to Host UTSA Sunday

EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team returns home to face the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
  
Last Time Out
The Broncs (12-5) defeated the Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles 4-1 on Thursday.
 
Didi Fatchikova and Mariana Ranzahuer got things started for the Broncs as they defeated Mairead Cleary and Nika Munoz 8-0 at No. 3 doubles. Reegan Greenwood and Katia Stavroulaki followed with an 8-2 win over Haley Martin and Ximena Puentes at No. 2 doubles, clinching the doubles point for the Broncs.
 
The Golden Eagles got their lone point at No. 2 singles. Greenwood answered with a 6-2, 6-3 straight set victory over Puentes at No. 4 singles and Christel Amsallem followed with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Cleary at No. 5 singles. Heather Borsos clinched the match for the Broncs with a 6-1, 6-2 straight set victory over Munoz at No. 6 singles.
 
The other two singles matches went unfinished once the match was clinched.
 
Scouting the Roadrunners
The Roadrunners are trying to get over .500 for the first time this spring as they post a 7-7 record and are coming off a couple of wins this past week as they beat Liberty 4-3, on Tuesday, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 4-0, on Wednesday.
 
Miriam Rosell Canudas leads the Roadrunners in both singles and doubles. She ha won her last six singles matches at the No. 2 position while posting a record of 11-3 on the season. In doubles, she has teamed with Jacobea Junger as they have a 9-1 record. They have won their last eight matches.
 
Junger has eight victories in singles competition while playing all her matches at No. 1 singles. Irene Garza and Isabelle Jonsson each have seven victories in singles competition.
 
The Series
The Broncs are 3-21 against the Roadrunners in a series that dates back to 1986. These two teams faced each other last year as the Roadrunners defeated the Broncs 5-2 on Feb. 2 in San Antonio. The Broncs last defeated the Roadrunners on March, 14, 2010 when they won 4-2.
 
Globetrotters
The Broncs currently have 10 student-athletes on the roster representing eight different countries including Bulgaria, Canada, England, France, Greece, Mexico, Slovakia and the United States.
 
Next Up
The Broncs are back in action on March 21 when they host the University of the Incarnate Word at 2 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
