Women's Tennis Faces Incarnate Word on Senior Day

EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team closes out their home schedule as they host the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals on Friday at 2 p.m. on Senior Day.
 
Racking Up the Wins
The Broncs are 12-6 on the season and the 12 wins ranks third in program history. The only other two times the Broncs have won more than 12 matches 2007-08 when they won 16 and 1989-90 when they won 15.  
 
One for the Record Books
The Broncs set the program's record for the longest win streak as they put together six straight wins from Feb. 28-March 9. During the win streak the Broncs beat Texas A&M Kingsville, Kansas City, Prairie View A&M, Grambling State, Alcorn State and Louisiana Lafayette.
 
Last Time Out
Sophomore Reegan Greenwood earned a straight set victory at the No. 4 singles position but it wasn't enough as the Broncs fell 4-1 to the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners.
 
Greenwood earned the lone point for the Broncs at No. 4 singles. Greenwood defeated Nicole Karaklis in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Greenwood improves to 12-3 in singles competition during dual match play while also posting a 4-0 record at the No. 4 position.
 
The Roadrunners (8-7) won the matches at No. 1, 2 and 3 in straight sets to clinch the match. The rest of the matches went unfinished once the match was decided.
 
UTSA clinched the doubles point as they won at No. 1 and 3 spots. The match at No. 2 doubles went unfinished.
 
Scouting the Cardinals
The Cardinals are 3-9 on the season and are coming off of a 4-0 win over Cameron University on Tuesday.
 
Jennifer Betancourt and Andi Botha lead the Cardinals with five singles victories while Ivana Katavic, Sarah Savedra and Taryn Strahl each have three victories in singles competition.
 
In doubles, Betancourt and Savedra have a 4-4 record while playing all their matches at the No. 2 position. Kelsey Reblin and Strahl have a 3-6 record at No. 3 doubles while Botha and Katavic have three wins at the No. 1 spot.
 
The Series
The Broncs are 2-1 against the Cardinals all-time in a series that dates back to 1990. This will be the second time the Broncs and Cardinals face each other this season as the Broncs beat the Cardinals 5-2 on Feb. 16 in San Antonio.
 
Globetrotters
The Broncs currently have 10 student-athletes on the roster representing eight different countries including Bulgaria, Canada, England, France, Greece, Mexico, Slovakia and the United States.
 
Next Up
The Broncs have some time off before they compete at the Western Athletic Conference Tennis in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
