PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis starts a six-match road trip as they face the Prairie View A&M University Panthers on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Prairie View A&M Tennis Complex.
Last Time Out
The Broncs (7-4) are coming off of a 5-2 win over the University of Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos on Sunday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
The Broncs started off doubles with a win at No. 1 as
Wanda Beguelin and
Christel Amsallem beat Kansas City's (4-9) Amelie Amsallem and Dimitra Stavrianakou 8-1.
Reegan Greenwood and
Katia Stavroulaki defeated Gaby Pintos and Maddie Schulte 8-2 at No. 2 doubles to clinch the point.
In singles, Beguelin started things off with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Schulte. Stavroulaki followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Raquel Argenal at No. 3 singles. Amsallem picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles over Linda Ammar Mouhoub while Greenwood beat Amsallem 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.
The Kangaroos picked up their two points with wins at No. 1 and 4 singles.
Scouting the Panthers
The Panthers are 5-8 on the season and are coming off of a 7-0 win against Alabama A&M on March 1.
Taylor LeFridge, Brittany Harrell, Christine Gwodog and Sydney Thomas each won their singles match in straight sets.
In doubles, Harrell and LeFridge teamed up to pick up an 8-1 win at No. 1 and Gwodog and Thomas picked up an 8-1 win at No. 2.
This will be the second time the Broncs and Panthers play each other. LeFridge picked up the lone point for Prairie View A&M at No. 1 singles.
The Series
The Broncs are 11-1 against the Panthers all-time in a series that dates back to 1986. The Broncs beat the Panthers 6-1 in their last meeting on Feb. 1 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
Globetrotters
The Broncs currently have 10 student-athletes on the roster representing eight different countries including Bulgaria, Canada, England, France, Greece, Mexico, Slovakia and the United States.
Next Up
The Broncs play the second match of their six-match road trip when they face Grambling State University on Friday at 1p.m.
