Janari Joesaar hit a career-high 10 baskets, including a career-high six three-pointers, but the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team closed out a stretch of 10-of-11 away from home with a 74-54 loss to the Kent State University Golden Flashes on Friday at Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.
Jonesaar led the Broncs (5-9) with 27 points while going 10-for-14 from the field, including 6-for-9 from behind the arc. He also had nine rebounds (four offensive) and a career-high three steals.
Jimmy Hall led the Golden Flashes (9-4) with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, plus 5-for-5 from the line, with 10 rebounds.
Devreaux Manley also had 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 5-of-8 from behind the arc.
Kris Brewer also reached double-figures, finishing with 10 points.
Joesaar hit a three and senior
Shaquille Boga made a jumper as the Broncs jumped out to a 5-4 lead over the first two and a half minutes. The Golden Flashes, however, hit six of their next eight shots to fuel a 14-2 run and go up 18-7.
Joesaar scored the Broncs' next 16 points, the first 11 of which helped the Broncs pull within 23-18, but Manley scored eight points and Hall had six over the next 8:17 as the Golden Flashes used a 17-5 run to go up 40-23.
The Broncs were as close as 52-38 after a layup by freshman
Isaiah Hobbs with 12:29 remaining, but a Hall three-point play sparked a 20-7 run as the Golden Flashes pushed the game out of reach.
The Broncs kick off a three-game home stand on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they host Our Lady of the Lake at the UTPA Fieldhouse. Doors open at 6.
