Men's Tennis Continues Road Trip at Prairie View A&M Saturday

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team continues its road trip when they face the Prairie View A&M University Panthers on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Prairie View A&M Tennis Complex.
 
Last Time Out
The Broncs (0-2) fell 0-6 to the Rice University Owls on Friday at the Downtown Club at the Met.
 
The doubles matches were not played after wet conditions forced the match to change venues from the George R. Brown Tennis Center to the Downtown Club.
 
The Owls (3-1) swept through the singles competition as freshman Miguel Alvarez-Hevia fell to David Warren 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot. Freshman Koby Jansen fell to Jamie Malik 6-0, 6-0 at the No.2 singles spot and junior Hector Ramirez fell to Max Andrews 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. Freshman Elliot Johnstone fell in the No. 4 singles spot to Adam Gustafsson 6-2, 6-4 while freshman Nikola Crvelin fell to Gustavo Gonzalez 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot.
 
At the No.1 singles spot, sophomore Juan Cruz Soria took his match against Srikar Alla to three sets. Soria opened the match with a 6-4 win in the first set and then dropped the second set 4-6. Alla went on to win the tiebreaker 10-6 to win the match.
 
Scouting the Panthers
The Panthers will be opening their dual match season on Saturday against the Broncs.
 
The Panthers lose six from last season but return four seniors in Jonathan Dingle, James Jackson Jr., Bruno Snyder and Daniel Vasquez. They also return sophomore Malik Norris.
 
The Series
The Broncs are 12-0 all-time against the Panthers in a series that dates back to 1986. The last time these two teams met was on February 1, 2014 when the Broncs defeated the Panthers 7-0 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
The last time the Broncs traveled to Prairie View was during the 2012 season. The Broncs made two trips to Prairie View as they recorded a 7-0 victory on February 9 and a 6-1 victory on March 14.
 
Globetrotters
The Broncs have seven student-athletes representing six countries including, Argentina, Australia, Croatia, Mexico, Spain and Trinidad and Tobago.
 
Next Up
The Broncs are back in action on February 1 when they head to College Station to face off against No. 10 Texas A&M University.
