EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team returns to the Orville Cox Tennis Center to face the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Javelinas on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Last Time OutThe Broncs fell 0-7 to the No. 6 Baylor University Bears at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center on Friday.
The Broncs (2-2) fell behind early after dropping the doubles point as the Bears (4-0) swept all three matches.
In singles, the Bears continued to control things as they won all six singles matches in straight sets. Freshman
Dominique Esparza faced 101st ranked Rachael James-Baker on court two and fell 0-6, 2-6 while sophomore
Mariana Ranzahuer faced 73rd ranked Kelley Anderson falling 2-6, 2-6 on court three.
Scouting the JavelinasThe Javelinas are kicking off their 2015 dual match season on Sunday against the Broncs.
They return five from last season in Eleni Anastasova, Marija Dimitrovska, Mariaxi Herrera, Erika Larrea and Tabata Lua. Herrera enters the spring season as the 20
th ranked singles player in Division II South Central Region.
The Javelinas also added four new players including Nadia Grlj who transferred from West Virginia State. Grlj finished her freshman season with a 9-1 record in singles and 12-0 in doubles and was a Mountain West Conference Champion.
The SeriesThe Broncs are 7-0 against the Javelinas in a series that dates back to 1988. These two teams met last season at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
The Broncs beat the Javelinas 6-1 on February 28. The Broncs swept through the doubles matches and won five out of the six singles matches.
GlobetrottersThe Broncs currently have nine student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries including Colombia, England, France, Greece, Mexico and the United States.
Next UpThe Broncs are back in action on February 3 as they travel to Corpus Christi to face the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at 1 p.m.
