EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's soccer team beat the Chicago State University Cougars 2-0 on Sunday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
The Vaqueros (3-10-3, 1-6-0 WAC) got on the board 10 minutes into the match. Freshman
Malia Irvine sent the ball up the right side of the field to sophomore

Sierra Nixon, drawing

Allyson Smith, who was waiting on the door step of the goal to score for the first time this season and make it 1-0. It was Barrera's second assist and Irvine's fourth.
Then, with about seven minutes left, sophomore
Marcela Ramirez netted her first-career goal off a rebound in front of the net.
Sophomore Harlingen South alum
Erica Gonzalez (2-6-2, 1-3-0 WAC) recorded her second shutout of the season and fourth of her career. During the last 4:24 of the match, she had the opportunity to play alongside her sister, freshman

The Vaqueros outshot the Cougars (0-16-0, 0-7-0 WAC) 22-1, including 4-0 on goal.
