CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's soccer team clinched a spot in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament for the second year in a row with a 1-0 victory on Sunday at Kroc Stadium.
The Vaqueros (4-11-3, 2-7-0 WAC) scored the game-winner mid-way through the first half when sophomore
Andreya Barrera scored her third goal of the season off a pass from sophomore
Hadlie Tucker, who recorded her first-career assist.
Sophomore Harlingen South alum
Erica Gonzalez (3-7-2, 2-4-0 WAC) made one save for her third shutout of the season and fifth of her career.
Taylor Conroy (0-6-0, 0-5-0 WAC) made 10 saves for the Cougars (0-18-0, 0-9-0 WAC).
The Vaqueros outshot the Cougars 16-1, including 11-1 on goal.
The Vaqueros close out the regular season on Saturday at 7 p.m. when they host New Mexico State at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. There will be a pre-match ceremony honoring senior
Fernanda Baena. Gates open at 6.
