EDINBURG – Five players reached double-figures in scoring as the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's basketball team beat the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs 90-38 on Wednesday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
 
Junior Shawnte' Goff led the Vaqueros (3-1) with 17 points, a career-high tying seven assists, and three steals. Junior Mary Savoy posted her second double-double with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting, 12 rebounds (nine offensive), four assists and five steals. Senior Rickell Preston scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting with five rebounds. Sophomore Hildur Björg Kjaransdóttir scored 12 points with six rebounds. Junior Anushka Maldnado scored 10 points with five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.
 
Taylor Dydalewicz led the Bulldogs with 13 points on 4-of-4 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers.
 
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 7-2 lead on a Dydalewicz three-pointer, but a Preston layup was the first of eight-straight points by the Vaqueros as they took a 10-7 lead. After an Adelaide Wenzel three tied it at 10, Preston hit another layup to kick off another 8-0 run to put the Vaqueros up 18-10. Wenzel broke the run with another basket, this time a layup, but Goff bookended a 19-0 run with three-pointers to put the Vaqueros up 37-12.
 
In total, the Vaqueros outscored the Bulldogs 47-10 over a 15-minute span to go up 49-17 on a Kjaransdóttir three with three minutes left in the second quarter.
 
The Bulldogs pulled to within 22 early in the third quarter, but a Maldonado three-point play was the first of 27-straight points by the Vaqueros and a 34-2 run over the next 15 minutes.
 
The Vaqueros kick off a seven-game road trip on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Eastern Michigan in a game that can be seen on ESPN3.
