EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros volleyball team swept the Grand Canyon University Antelopes 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-22) on Thursday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.

Jordyn Sanchez led the Antelopes (4-19, 2-0 WAC) with eight kills and 15 digs.
The first set was tied at two off the bat, but after an error, the Vaqueros led for the rest of the set. It all started with an 14-4 run powered by three Durham kills and three Mitrovic kills that made it 16-6. The 'Lopes pulled within 11-20, but freshman
Alexandra Ecker had a pair of kills to help the Vaqueros put the set away.
The second set was tight most of the way, with the Vaqueros taking their first three-point lead at 10-7 on a Durham kill. The Vaqueros extended their lead to 16-11 on a Mitrovic kill and still led 21-17 on a Durham kill. The 'Lopes scored three-straight to pull within one, but the Vaqueros scored the next four to reach set point. Then, after three-straight points by the 'Lopes to make it a one-point set, Mitrovic found the back corner of the court to give the Vaqueros a 2-0 lead.
The 'Lopes took their latest lead in a set in the third by going up 19-17, but an Ecker kill and three bocks by Ecker and Vukoja allowed the Vaqueros to score six-straight points and pull away for the sweep.
The Vaqueros play their final home match of the season on Saturday at 12 p.m. when they host CSU Bakersfield. There will be a pre-match senior day ceremony honoring Durham and San Benito alum
Kasey Sanchez. Doors open at 11 a.m.
