EL PASO – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team closes out their weekend against the University of Texas-El Paso Miners on Sunday at the El Paso Tennis Club.
This is the sixth match of 10 straight matches away from the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
Last Time OutThe Broncs recorded its first Western Athletic Conference win of the season after defeating the Seattle U Redhawks 5-2.
The Redhawks (5-13) looked like they would control the match as they came away with the doubles point after winning on courts one and two but the Broncs (7-8) responded in singles competition.
The Broncs came away with wins on five of the six courts to clinch the match.
Katia Stavroulaki defeated Michelle Lui 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
Reegan Greenwood extended her win streak to eight straight matches with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Madison Maloney at No. 3 singles.
Christel Amsallem gave the Broncs another point with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Barbara Carey at No. 4 singles.
Mariana Ranzahuer added a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Kristen James at No. 5 singles and
Natacha Minc defeated Audrey Scott 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
Scouting the MinersThe Miners are 8-3 enter Sunday's match while going 6-1 at home. They are coming off of a 6-1 victory over Western New Mexico on Thursday.
Jeannez Daniel, Davina Meza, and Duda Santos each have posted a 9-2 record in singles play during the dual match season. Daniel has played all of her matches at No. 2 singles. Meza has played all of her matches at No. 1 singles and Santos has played all of her matches at No. 3 singles. Meza has won five in a row.
In doubles, the team of Meza and Santos leads the Miners a 7-1 record while playing all of their matches at No. 1 doubles and has won seven straight matches.
The SeriesThe Broncs are 2-6 all-time against the Miners in a series that dates back to 1993. The last time these two teams faced each other was on March 13, 2011 when the Miners came away with a 7-0 victory.
The last time the Broncs defeated the Miners came on March 15, 2008 when they picked up the 5-2 victory at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
GlobetrottersThe Broncs currently have nine student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries including Colombia, England, France, Greece, Mexico and the United States.
Next UpThe Broncs are back in action on Nicholls State University on March 27 in a neutral site match in San Antonio.
