Box ScoreEDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell to the Seattle University Redhawks 4-0 on Sunday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in the finale of their three-game series.
The Broncs (11-14, 0-6 WAC) threatened twice. With one out in the first, the Broncs loaded the bases against
Tarik Skubal (2-3), but sophomore
Victor Garcia Jr. struck out and junior
Scott Mercer grounded out to end the threat.
Skubal retired 21 of the next 22 batters he faced, before a walk and a single gave the Broncs two on with one out in the eighth, but
Ted Hammond came in and got a groundout and a strikeout before pitching a perfect ninth for his first save.
Skubal struck out three in 7.1 innings of work, tossing five 1-2-3 frames.
The only Bronc to reach twice was junior
Correy Davis, going 1-for-3 with a walk. Davis is 12 for his last 19 (.632), reaching base at a .708 clip during that span.
Senior
Jesus Garcia went 1-for-4 and is now 14 for his last 27 (.519) while riding a seven-game hitting streak.
Freshman Nikki Rowe alum
Ryan Jackson (1-3) held the Redhawks (12-14, 5-1 WAC) scoreless for the first six innings. With a runner at second and two outs in the seventh, however,
Griffin Andreychuck hit an RBI-double and
Sheldon Stober hit an RBI-single to make it 2-0.
That was it against Jackson, who went seven innings, allowing seven hits and one walk while striking out one.
The Redhawks' remaining runs also came with two outs, as, with two on in the eighth,
Colin Peterson hit an RBI-single and
Landon Cray hit an RBI-double to complete the scoring.
The Broncs complete this four-game home stand on Tuesday at 2 p.m. when they host Incarnate Word. Gates open at 1.
