RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) baseball team learned on Thursday that junior center fielder
Rocco Garza Gongora, junior third baseman
Easton Moomau, junior designated hitter
Julius Ramirez, junior first baseman
Armani Raygoza, and senior second baseman
Thomas Williams have earned All-Academic Southland Conference honors.
This is the second-straight season in which Raygoza and Moomau have earned the honor.
All honorees had a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and participated in at least 50% of the team's games. All-conference first team honorees automatically receive all-academic honors if they meet the academic criteria. Each team can have a maximum of five all-academic honorees.
Rocco Garza Gongora
An all-conference first team, all-defensive team, and CSC Academic All-District honoree, Garza Gongora hit .303/.401/.504 with seven home runs, 21 doubles, two triples, 37 RBI, 55 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases. The Vaqueros' starting center fielder and leadoff man, Garza Gongora played flawless defense and is now tied for the 10
th-longest errorless streak in program history at 55 games. For his career, Garza Gongora is currently on an 85-game errorless streak dating back to 2023.
Garza Gongora ranked 22
nd in the NCAA and first in the Southland in doubles (21), 34
th in the NCAA and first in the Southland in doubles per game (0.38), and 148
th in the NCAA and second in the Southland in runs scored (55). The 21 doubles are the second-highest single-season total in program history. He recorded a team-high tying 21 multi-hit games, including five of three hits, nine multi-RBI games, including games of three, four, and five RBI, and 14 multi-run games, including three games of three runs scored.
Easton Moomau
An all-conference second team, and CSC Academic All-District honoree, Moomau hit .280/.402/.403 with six home runs, six doubles, one triple, 41 RBI, 28 runs scored, and three stolen bases.
The Vaqueros' starting third baseman, Moomau ranked 98
th in the NCAA and fourth in the Southland in walks (42) and 139
th in the NCAA and fifth in the Southland in walks per game (0.76). He recorded 16 multi-hit games, including three of three hits, 12 multi-RBI games, including two of three hits, and four multi-run games.
Julius Ramirez
An all-conference first team honoree, Ramirez hit .297/.361/.495 with 11 home runs, seven doubles, 52 RBI, 33 runs scored, and three stolen bases.
The Vaqueros' starting designated hitter, Ramirez ranked 116
th in the NCAA and third in the Southland in sacrifice flies (5). He recorded 16 multi-hit games, including five of three hits, team-high tying 13 multi-RBI games, including four of three, one of four, and one of six RBI, and nine multi-run games.
Armani Raygoza
A two-time Southland Conference Player of the Year and all-conference first team honoree, Raygoza hit .314/.462/.633 with 17 home runs, 15 doubles, 50 RBI, and 53 runs scored. During the season he became the program's all-time leader in home runs (40) and RBI (138).
The Vaqueros' starting first baseman, Raygoza led the Southland in six categories, ranking 23
rd in the NCAA in walks (50), 33
rd in walks per game (0.91), 56
th in home runs (17), 75
th in home runs per game (0.31), 116
th in slugging (.633), and 122
nd in total bases (131) while also ranking second in the Southland and 147
th in the NCAA in on-base percentage (.462). He hit 17 home runs for the second-straight season, tied for the fourth-highest single-season total in program history. Raygoza recorded 19 multi-hit games, including four of three hits and one of four hits, team-high tying 13 multi-RBI games, including one of three, three of four, and one of five RBI, and team-high 16 multi-run games, including four three-run games.
Thomas Williams
The Vaqueros' starting second baseman, Williams hit .319/.412/.472 with five home runs, 14 doubles, two triples 40 RBI, 46 runs scored, and eight stolen bases.
He recorded team-high tying 21 multi-hit games, including four three-hit games and one four-hit games, nine multi-RBI games, including six of three RBI and one of four RBI, and 13 multi-run games.
