CLINTON, S.C. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's soccer team picked up its first road win since returning to action after an 18-year hiatus, 2-0 over the Presbyterian College Blue Hose on Sunday at Edens Field at Martin Stadium.
It was the Vaqueros' (2-2-1) first road win since a 3-2 victory over Schreiner on Oct. 13, 1996.
After a scoreless first two-third of the match,
Carlos Acevedo found the back of the net for his second goal of the season at 61:34.
Then, with about three and a half minutes remaining, freshman Brownsville Rivera alum
Isidro Martinez scored his second goal of the season to put the match away.
Acevedo and Martinez are tied for the team lead with six points each.
Junior goalkeeper
Leo Castillo (1-2-1) made five saves for his first shutout.
Blue Hose (0-5-0) goalkeeper
Johnny Archer (0-5-0) made six saves.
The Vaqueros were outshot 14-13 overall, but they outshot the Blue Hose 8-5 on goal.
The Vaqueros are back in action on Friday at 9 p.m. when they visit San Diego State.
