Women's Soccer Falls at Mississippi Valley State

ITTA BENA, Miss. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's soccer team fell to the Mississippi Valley State University Devilettes 2-0 on Friday.
 
The Devilettes (1-3-0) scored first, as Ernestina Abambila connected on a penalty kick with just under four minutes remaining in the first half.
 
Abambila was again involved in the scoring, setting up a goal by Nyksoi Simmons with five minutes left in regulation.
 
That was it against Vaqueros (1-2-1) goalkeeper and sophomore Harlingen South alum Erica Gonzalez (0-2-1), who made four saves.
 
Rita Gyasi (1-3-0) made five saves for the shutout.
 
The Vaqueros had nine shots, including five on goal. The Devilettes had 10 shots, including six on goal.
 
The Vaqueros are back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they visit Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
