EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's tennis team remained perfect at home after defeating the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas 6-1 on Sunday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
The Vaqueros (2-3) took control early on in the match as they swept through doubles. The duo of senior Reegan Greenwood and Dominique Esparza defeated Mariaxi Herrera and Marija Dimitrovska 6-1 on court one.
 
The team of freshman Doris Aleksovska and sophomore Natacha Minc clinched the point with a 6-4 win over Nadia Grjl and Martina Urrutia on court two. Freshman Tara Donaho and senior Julia Perez closed out doubles with a 7-5 win on court three over Madison Gomez and Erika Larrea.
 
Esparza kept things going in singles as she defeated Dimitrovska 6-2, 6-2 on court two to extend UTRGV's lead to 2-0. Donaho then recorded a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Urrutia on court five and then Minc clinched the match for the Vaqueros with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Grjl on court three.
 
The Javelinas (0-1) got their lone point on court six but Aleksovska answered back with a win on court four. Aleksovska opened with a 6-3 win in the first set and then she found herself trailing in the second set before battling back to win 7-5.
 
On court one, Greenwood picked up a 7-5 first-set win over Herrera but then fell in the second 4-6. Greenwood won the first five points in the super tiebreaker and held off a rally from Herrera to win 10-8 to win the match.
 
Greenwood now holds sole possession of seventh place in the program's all-time career singles win list with 45 career singles victories.
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action when they host the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at the Orville Cox Tennis Center on February 26 at 12 p.m.
