EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team fell to defending Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Champion Utah Valley University (UVU) 1-0 in overtime on Friday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
UVU (7-6-1, 1-2-0 WAC) scored the game-winner at 97:59 when
Breanna McCarter stole the ball at midfield and sent a long pass ahead to
Sydney Fitzpatrick, who fired to the right of freshman
Kinga Szemik (5-3-0).
Szemik finished with a career-high tying seven saves for UTRGV (9-4-1, 1-2-0 WAC).
Brooklyn Nielsen (5-2-1) made three saves for the shutout.
Junior
Andreya Barrera attempted three of UTRGV's seven shots, including one of its three shots on goal.
UTRGV plays its final home match of the season on Sunday at 1 p.m. when it hosts Seattle U for senior day. There will be a special pre-match ceremony honoring the senior class. Gates open at 12.
