BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team fell to CSU Bakersfield 1-0 on Friday at The Main Soccer Field.
The match was scoreless for the first 89 minutes, but in the final minute of regulation,
Jordin Bartel threw the ball in to
Sophie Freeman who scored on a long shot.
That was it against UTRGV (9-6-1, 1-4-0 WAC) freshman goalkeeper
Kinga Szemik (5-5-0), who made four saves.
CSU Bakersfield (7-9-1, 3-2-0 WAC) outshot UTRGV 12-11, but UTRGV held a 7-5 edge in shots on goal and a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior
Hanna Spets attempted a team-high three shots, including two on goal.
Jen Padilla (7-6-1) made seven saves for CSU Bakersfield.
UTRGV is back in action on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Grand Canyon.
