OREM, Utah – The fifth-seeded University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's soccer team fell to fourth-seeded UNLV 3-2 in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday at Clyde Field.
After
Timo Mehlich gave UNLV (8-11-1) a 1-0 lead in the 14
th minute, UTRGV (6-9-3) quickly responded, as, in the 17
th minute, freshman
Juanito Ramirez fed senior Hanna alum
Juanito Garcia, who took the ball up the right side of the box before sending a cross to freshman
Damian Roszczyk, who sent a bouncer into the back of the net.
Two minutes later, UTRGV took the lead when sophomore Brownsville Rivera alum
Isidro Martinez fired the ball past a defender and into the goal from 28 yards out.
UNLV tied the match in the 38
th minute when
Oscar Velazquez scored off a cross by
Danny Musovski and then regained the lead a minute and a half later when Mehlich took a shot from the top of the box that was deflected into the goal.
Freshman
Esa Aalto (5-5-2) made four saves for UTRGV while
Enrique Adame (5-5-0) made one save for UNLV.
