SHSU led 3-2 in the opening minutes, but an offensive rebound and a putback by Murphy was the first of seven-straight points for UTRGV. Then, after Rachel Harrell made three free throws, sophomore Weslaco alum Angel Villarreal nailed a three-pointer to help UTRGV score 12-straight points to go up 32-8. It became a 33-7 run as UTRGV took its largest lead of the first half on a Savoy jumper that made it 44-15 with 2:31 remaining.

UTRGV pushed its lead to 30 early in the third quarter when a Türk free throw made it 52-22 before Oramas made two three-pointers and two layups to bring SHSU within 20.

Kjaratansdóttir responded with a three-pointer and three layups to push the game out of reach.
