SAN JOSÉ, Calif. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's soccer team clinched its first-ever berth in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament with a 2-1 victory over San José State University (SJSU) on Saturday at Spartan Soccer Field.
UTRGV (6-8-3, 4-4-2 WAC) will be the No. 5 seed and face No. 4 seed UNLV in the WAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Utah Valley. UTRGV beat UNLV 1-0 at home on Oct. 6. The winner of this match will face top-seeded and 15
th-ranked Utah Valley on Friday at 7 p.m. in the WAC Tournament Semifinals.
SJSU (4-13-2, 3-6-1 WAC) took a 1-0 lead on a
Carlos Valdovinos goal at 62:18, but 59 seconds later, freshman
Ilias Kosmidis scored on a bicycle kick to tie the match. It was hit second goal of the season. Freshman
Damian Roszczyk got his third assist on the play.
UTRGV got the game-winner in the 85
th minute when senior
Sami Tiittanen sent a long ball ahead to sophomore
Isaiah Hinds, who broke past the SJSU defense to score his first goal of the season.

Esa Aalto (5-4-2) made a career-high tying seven saves, including five in the second half.
Nedin Tucakovic (4-13-2) made one save for SJSU.
