STILLWATER, Okla. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's basketball team fell to Oklahoma State University (OSU), a team receiving votes in the latest top 25 polls, 84-53 on Sunday at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Senior
Shawnte' Goff led UTRGV (5-5) with 17 points. Sophomore
Bernesha Peters finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
Karli Wheeler led OSU (8-0) with 29 points on 11-of-17 shooting, including 6-of-9 from behind the arc, and eight rebounds.
Mandy Coleman scored 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc, with six rebounds.
Kaylee Jensen scored 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting with six rebounds, three blocks and three steals.
Coleman opened the game with a layup and then freshman
Megan Johnson hit a three to make it 2-1. Then, after a Jensen layup

Lile Havili made a jumper to make it 4-3.
A Wheeler three and a Jensen three-point play let OSU go up 10-3, but Goff responded with a layup and a three to help UTRGV pull within 12-8 midway through the first quarter.
UTRGV was still within single-figures at 18-12 with 2:41 left in the quarter following a lauyp by senior
Mary Savoy and a Goff jumper, but Wheeler hit a trio of threes and two jumpers to power a 34-8 run that put OSU up 52-20 in the opening minute of the third quarter.
Goff hit a pair of three-pointers as part of a 10-4 run to bring UTRGV within 56-30 with 5:01 remaining in the quarter, but that's as close as UTRGV got.
UTRGV wraps up the road trip on Thursday at 7 p.m. when it visits No. 17 Texas.
