EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's basketball team opened the game on a 27-2 run en route to an 86-55 victory over Wayland Baptist University (WBU), the No. 21 team in the NAIA, on Wednesday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
Sophomore
Antonio Green led UTRGV (6-9) with 16 points and eight rebounds. Green hit a trio of three-pointers to retake the NCAA lead in three-pointers made, now with 61. Junior

Mike Hoffman scored 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting with five rebounds. Sophomore
Lew Stallworth scored 10 points with five rebounds, six assists and three steals.
In total, 13 different UTRGV players scored, 12 had rebounds, 11 had offensive rebounds, nine had steals and eight had assists.
Maurice Redmond led WBU with 15 points and six rebounds.

J.J. Culver layup gave WBU a 2-0 lead, UTRGV went 9-of 19 from the field and eight players scored as UTRGV scored 27-straight points to make it 27-2 with 7:44 remaining in the first half. Green, freshman

Moe McDonald all hit three-pointers during the run while Hoffman added an emphatic slam.
WBU went 6-for-6 from the line as part of an 8-1 run to pull within 28-10 two minutes later before a pair of Green three-pointers helped UTRGV score 10 of the next 12 points to go up 38-12 with 2:59 remaining in the first half.
UTRGV led by as many as 33, going up 73-40 on a Hoffman three with 6:27 left, and 76-43 on a Green free throw one minute later.
UTRGV is back in action on Dec. 29 at 7p.m. when it hosts Our Lady of the Lake at the UTRGV Fieldhouse in a game that will be teleivsed regionally on Spectrum Sports Alt. channel 825.
It's the first of three city nights in which fans from specific cities, towns and villages will be able to purchase general admission tickets discounted by $2 each by showing proof of residency. The areas being honored for this game are Bayview, Brownsville, Combes, Harlingen, Indian Lake, La Feria, Laguna Vista, Los Fresnos, Los Indios, Lyford, Palm Valley, Port Isabel, Primera, Rancho Viejo, Rangerville, Raymondville, Rio Hondo, San Benito, San Perlita, Santa Rosa, and South Padre Island.
