ABILENE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros baseball team fell to the Abilene Christian University Wildcats 7-2 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Crutcher Scott Field.
 
Junior 
Austin Douglas led the Vaqueros (0-2) offensively with his second-straight two-hit game, driving in both runs. He drove-in junior 
Austin Oakes with a two-out single in the fifth and hit his first-career home run in the eighth.
 
Sophomore Nikki Rowe alum 
Ryan Jackson (0-1) pitched well, allowing just one earned run out of three in seven innings of five-hit ball. Jackson struckout six while inducing 11 groundballs.
 
After a catcher's interference extended the first inning and put runners on the corners, 
David Ruot forced-in a run with a groundout and then 
Russell Crippen scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
 
The Wildcats (2-0) extended their lead to 3-0 when 
Mark Pearson scored on a two-out wild pitch in the fourth.
 
The Wildcats scored four two-out runs in the eighth to put the game away.
 
Garrett deMeyere (1-0) pitched six innings of four-hit ball, striking out two for the win.
 
The Vaqueros and Wildcats play the second game of this doubleheader at approximately 4:15 p.m.
