ABILENE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros baseball team fell to the Abilene Christian University Wildcats 3-1 in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Crutcher Scott Field.
Junior
Andrew Garcia (0-1) pitched well in his Vaqueros (0-3) debut, striking out six in five innings.
The only blemish came in the first when a stolen bases by
Hunter Markwardt and
Russell Crippen led to RBI-singles by Crippen and
Mark Pearson to make it 2-0.
Pearson finished 3-for-4.
The Vaqueros got on the board in the fourth when junior
Jacob Huckabay singled through the left side to bring home freshman
Caden Rosholt.
Huckabay finished 2-for-4.
That was it against Wildcats (3-0) starter
Aaron Mason (1-0), who pitched six innings of four-hit ball, striking out two.
The Wildcats added some insurance in the eighth, as
Alex Check came up with an RBI-double, setting up
Nick Palacios to record his first save with a scoreless ninth.
The Vaqueros and Wildcats conclude this four-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
