EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's tennis team fell for the first time this season at home as the lost 2-5 to the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners on Sunday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
UTSA (5-7) took the doubles match on court one but the Vaqueros (2-4) rebounded with a win on court three as the team of Tara Donaho and Dominique Ibarra defeated Lina Hallgren and Charleen Tiwari 6-2.
 
The doubles point came down to court two as the team of Doris Aleksovska and Natacha Minc went back and forth with Nicole Karaklis and Alena Shickova. The match went to the tiebreaker as UTSA won 7-3 to came away with the doubles point .
 
UTSA picked up two more points with wins on singles courts four and one but the Vaqueros got on the board with a win on court six. Freshman Tara Donaho recorded a 6-2 victory in the first set over Sonia Madroñal and then closed out her match with a 6-4 victory in the second.
 
The Roadrunners clinched the match with wins on courts two and five but freshman Dominique Ibarra didn't give up on her match. After dropping the first set 2-6 to Alena Shickova on court three, she bounced back with a 6-3 win in the second to force a third where she won 7-5 to close the match.
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action on March 12 when they head to Prairie View to face the Panthers.
