EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros baseball team used a season-high 14 hits to defeat the Arlington Baptist College Patriots 11-1 in a game that ended in the eighth inning due to the 10-run rule on Saturday at the UTRGV Baseball Stadium.
The Vaqueros (6-8) jumped out in front in the first. Junior
Joseph Collazo led off the bottom of the inning with a single and then moved to second after a walk to sophomore
Manny Loredo. Junior
Jose Garcia followed with an RBI singles that scored Collazo. Later in the inning, Loredo came in to score on a double play that made it 2-0.
In the bottom of the third, the Vaqueros sent 10 batters to the plate against the Patriots' Austin Valdez. Garcia and Loncar started the inning with singles and then they came in to score on a two-run double by junior

Correy Davis followed with a single and a stolen base to put runners at second and third for junior
Jacob Huckabay, who delivered a two-run single to center field. Collazo and Garcia caped the scoring in the inning with RBI singles that pushed the Vaqueros lead to 8-0.
Senior
Scott Mercer started the bottom of the fifth by reaching on an error and then after a wild pitch and a balk moved him to third he came in to score on an RBI single by freshman
Caden Rosholt that pushed the score to 9-0.
Junior
Andrew Garcia (2-1) pitched six scoreless innings after allowing just two hits and striking out four for his second win of the season.
The Patriots (10-17) got their lone run in the top of the seventh off of a sacrifice fly by
Cameron Guzman that made it 9-1.
The Vaqueros used a couple of wild pitches to score the final runs of the game in the bottom of the eight as sophomore
Isaac Gonzalez and freshman
Mike Garza scored to put the game away.
The Vaqueros and Patriots will play the final game of the series on Sunday at 12 p.m.
