PHOENIX – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's tennis team gets their first taste of Western Athletic Conference play as they face the New Mexico State Aggies on Friday at 2 p.m.
Last Time OutThe Vaqueros (3-4) defeated the Prairie View Panthers 6-1 on Saturday in Prairie View.
In doubles, the Vaqueros switched up the teams and it worked against the Panthers as the team of
Reegan Greenwood and
Tara Donaho picked up their first doubles win as a team.
Dominique Esparza and
Doris Aleksovska recorded a win on court two to secure the doubles with
Dominique Ibarra and Natcha Minc also recording a doubles victory on court three.
In singles, the Vaqueros went on to win on courts one, three, four, five and six to clinch the match.
Scouting the AggiesThe Aggies are 3-7 on the season and they are coming off of a 7-0 win over Mesa Community College yesterday.
The other two wins have come against Pima Community College and Weber State.
Mia Brandt and Lindsay Harlas lead the Aggies with a 4-5 singles record while playing most of her matches at the No. 5 and 6 spots. Chloe Jolliff, Rimpledeep Kaur and Erika Castillo Lopez have also added three singles victories.
In doubles, the Aggies have a pair of teams with 4-5 records. The duo of Kaur and Ashvarya Shrivastav has posted four wins while playing both No. 1 and 2 spots. The team of Harlas and Jolliff have also posted four wins while playing in the No. 3 spot.
The All-Time SeriesThe Vaqueros are 1-5 against the Aggies all-time in a series that dates back to 2008. Last season, these two teams faced each other in Phoenix where the Aggies came away with the 5-2 win.
The only win the Vaqueros have against the Aggies came on March 22, 2008 when they picked up the 5-2 win at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.

Reegan Greenwood is currently seventh in program history with 46 career singles wins. She is one away from Silke Buksik (2005-08) for sixth place and just five wins away from Tania Webster (1988-91) for fifth place. Ellen Nelissen (1991-95) tops the all-time list with 67 wins.
