Women's Tennis Set to Face Chicago State Saturday

PHOENIX – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's tennis team is set to face their second straight conference opponent as they face the Chicago State Cougars on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Paseo Tennis Center.
 
Last Time Out
The Vaqueros (3-5) fell to the New Mexico State Aggies 3-4 on Friday in their opening match of conference play.
 
The Aggies won the doubles point after sweeping through doubles and then winning on singles courts two and five.
 
The Vaqueros answered with wins on courts five, three and six to tie the match before New Mexico State put the match away with a win on court four.
 
Scouting the Cougars
The Cougars are 2-13 on the season after falling 0-7 to the Grand Canyon Antelopes on Friday.
 
Heading into the weekend, the Cougars were led by Monica Pulgar and Leshia Gadacz with six singles victories. Bryttish Burts and Hanna Pangestu each have won three matches.
 
In doubles, Pangestu and Gadacz have team to post four doubles victories to the Chicago State.
 
The All-Time Series
The Vaqueros 4-2 against the Cougars all-time in a series that dates back to 2009.
 
These two teams faced each other last season in Phoenix where the Vaqueros came away with the 4-3 victory.
 
Climbing the Ranks
Senior Reegan Greenwood is currently seventh in program history with 46 career singles wins. She is one away from Silke Buksik (2005-08) for sixth place and just five wins away from Tania Webster (1988-91) for fifth place. Ellen Nelissen (1991-95) tops the all-time list with 67 wins.

The Vaqueros will close out their weekend when they face WAC opponent Missouri-Kansas City on Sunday at 12 p.m.
