Women's Tennis Closes Out Weekend Against Missouri-Kansas City Sunday

PHOENIX – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's tennis team closes out their weekend as they face the Missouri-Kansas Kangaroos on Sunday at 12 p.m. at the Paseo Tennis Center.
 
Last Time Out
The Vaqueros (4-5) swept the Chicago State Cougars 7-0 on Saturday.
 
In doubles, the team of Doris Aleksovska and Dominique Esparza and the team of Reegan Greenwood and Tara Donaho each won to clinch the point.
 
The Vaqueros ran the table in singles to put the match away. Greenwood moves into a tie for sixth place in program history with 43 career singles victories.
 
Scouting the Kangaroos
The Kangaroos are 5-9 entering play Saturday after defeating Seattle U on Saturday.
 
Marina Albert leads the Kangaroos with six singles victories while Raquel Argenal, Melinda Johnson and Dimitra Stavrianakou have added five singles victories.
 
In doubles, the team of Albert and Ammar Mouhoub lead with five victories. Johnson and Stavrianakou have recorded three doubles victories on the dual match season. They have used 12 different doubles combinations.
 
The All-Time Series
The Vaqueros are 3-0 against the Kangaroos after taking two matches from them last season.
 
The Vaqueros defeated UMKC 5-2 in the regular season finale in Phoenix and then turned around and beat them again in the semifinal round of the WAC Championship to advance to the championship match.
 
Climbing the Ranks
Senior Reegan Greenwood is currently seventh in program history with 46 career singles wins. She is one away from Silke Buksik (2005-08) for sixth place and just five wins away from Tania Webster (1988-91) for fifth place. Ellen Nelissen (1991-95) tops the all-time list with 67 wins.

The Vaqueros will be back in action on March 25 when they face Central Arkansas in a neutral site match in Austion.
