CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's tennis team kicks off their second Western Athletic Conference cluster as they face the Grand Canyon University Antelopes on Friday at 4:14 p.m. at H-F Racquet and Fitness Club.
The Vaqueros and Antelopes are currently tied for second in the WAC.
Last Time OutThe Vaqueros (6-6, 2-1 WAC) got their record back to .500 after they defeated Valparaiso 6-1.
The Vaqueros took two of the three doubles matches as they won on courts two and three.
Doris Aleksovska and
Natacha Minc picked up a 6-4 win over Meg Modesto and Randi Wind on court two while
Tara Donaho and
Dominique Ibarra beat Halley Roach and Erin Staal 6-3 on court three to take the point.
In singles,
Reegan Greenwood dropped one game to Kathleen Hebble on court one as she picked up the 6-1, 6-0 win.
Dominique Esparza recorded a 6-2, 7-5 win over Paige Heuer on court two while Minc picked up the on court three. Minc dropped her first set 4-6 but didn't lose a game after that winning 6-0 in the second and 6-0 in the third.
Aleksovska posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Wind on court four while Donaho extended her singles match win streak to eight with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Halle Roach on court five.
Scouting the AntelopesThe Antelopes are 7-8 on the season and 2-1 in conference play after last defeating Seattle U 6-1.
The 'Lopes have four student-athletes with double-digit singles victories. Tatum Prudhomme leads the team with an 11-4 record while playing all of her matches at the No. 1 spot.
Susan Baklini, Lana Macukat and Lana Rinaldi each have 10 singles victories on the season.
Prudhomme and Baklini have teamed in doubles to post an 11-4 record while playing their matches at No. 1. Macukat and Rinaldi have teamed to post a 10-3 record while mainly playing in the No. 3 spot.
The All-Time SeriesThe Vaqueros are 0-2 all-time against the Antelopes in a series that dates back to 2014.
Grand Canyon came out with the 5-2 win over the Vaqueros last year in Las Cruces, New Mexico on March 20, 2015.
Climbing the RanksSenior
Reegan Greenwood is currently seventh in program history with 48 career singles wins. She is now in sole possession of sixth place and just one win away from Tania Webster (1988-91) for fifth place. Ellen Nelissen (1991-95) tops the all-time list with 67 wins.
