SAN MARCOS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's tennis is set to face off against the Texas State Bobcats on Saturday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex to kick off their final weekend of the regular season.
The match gets started at 10 a.m.
Last Time OutThe Vaqueros (9-8, 3-2 WAC) fell to the UTEP Miners 0-4 last Saturday.
UTRGV dropped the doubles point as the Miners (9-9) took two the three doubles matches as they won on courts one and two. The Vaqueros did pick up a win on court three as the team of
Doris Aleksovska and
Dominique Ibarra defeated Daphne Visscher and Maria Paula Medina 6-2.
The Miners then put the match away as they won on singles courts one, two, three and four. Ibarra did take a set from Visscher on court four but was trailing in the second set before the match went unfinished. Aleksovska dropped her first set to Tench on court five but led in the second set before it also went unfinished.
Tara Donaho's match on court six against Medina also went unfinished.
Scouting the BobcatsThe Bobcats are 7-12 on the season and 2-3 in Sun Belt Conference play after falling to Louisiana Lafayette and UT Arlington last week.
Ana Perez leads the Bobcats with an 8-8 dual match record in singles. She is currently on a two-match win streak and was up in two other matches before they went unfinished.
Eva Dench and Pippa Carr have teamed to post a 5-1 record in doubles while mainly playing at the No. 2 spot. The duo is riding a three match win streak after picking up wins against Central Arkansas, Louisiana Monroe and UTSA.
The All-Time SeriesThe Vaqueros are 3-22 all-time against the Bobcats in a series that dates back to 1986.
These two teams played each other last season as the Bobcats came away with a 4-3 victory in San Marcos.
The last time the Vaqueros came away with a victory against the Bobcats came back on February 16, 2008 as they won 5-2 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.

Reegan Greenwood is currently fourth in program history with 52 career singles wins. She is now three wins behind Barbara Barrera (1988-90) for third place all-time. Ellen Nelissen (1991-95) tops the all-time list with 67 wins.
