BELLEVUE, Wash. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros baseball team fell to the Seattle University Redhawks 6-4 in the series finale on Sunday at Bannerwood Park.
Junior
Joseph Collazo led the Vaqueros (18-21, 7-8 WAC) offensively by going a career-high tying 4-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Junior
Victor Garcia Jr. and seniors
Scott Mercer and
Correy Davis each had two hits as well.
The Redhawks (28-15, 15-3 WAC) led 6-1 after two innings, but senior
Parker Gallegos pitched a season-high 4.1 innings of scoreless relief and sophomore
George Lamb followed with four strikeouts in two shutout innings to keep the Vaqueros in the game.
The Vaqueros scored twice in the seventh on singles by Garcia and Davis to knock out
Jason Junk (4-3).
Then, in the eighth, Collazo hit a two-out double down the left field line to bring home Mercer, making it 6-4.
Garcia led off the ninth with a single, but
Connor Moore got a strikeout and a double play for his third save.
The Vaqueros led 1-0 in the first after a single by Collazo. In the bottom of the inning, however,
Sheldon Stober singled in a run and then, two outs later,
Jeffrey Morgan hit a two-run double to give the Redhawks a 3-1 lead.
In the second,
Dalton Hurd hit a two-run home run, and then, with the bases loaded and two outs, Morgan walked to force-in a run and knock out junior
Andrew Garcia (6-4).
The Vaqueros are back in action on Wednesday at 2 p.m. when they visit Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
