Manny Loredo drove-in a career-high tying three runs and junior
Andrew Garcia pitched seven innings of one-run ball to lead the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros baseball team past the Utah Valley University Wolverines 4-2 on Sunday at Brent Brown Ballpark.
Loredo finished 2-for-4, giving the Vaqueros (20-26, 9-12 WAC) a 2-1 lead with a single in the sixth and a 4-1 lead with a single in the eighth. The Vaqueros' other run came on an RBI-single by junior
Joseph Collazo earlier in the eighth. Collazo finished 2-for-3.
Junior
Jose Garcia also had a strong offensive game, going 3-for-5 with a double. He finished the series 10-for-17 (.588) with three doubles, a triple, three RBI and two runs scored.
Garcia (7-5) struck out two while allowing nine hits and two walks.
Sophomore
George Lamb pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save.
The Wolverines (30-21, 15-9 WAC) got their lone run against Garcia in the third on a wild pitch that scored
Stone Ramsey.
Craig Brinkerhof homered in the bottom of the eighth to complete the scoring.
Jake Mayer (7-2) started for the Wolverines, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out five in six innings.
The Vaqueros play their final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday at 2 p.m. when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at UTRGV Baseball Stadium in a game that will be televised live nationally on American Sports Network and throughout the state of Texas on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel (323). It's $2 Tuesday, featuring $2 general admission tickets and concession items for $2 or less. Gates open at 1.
