EDINBURG – Seniors Parker Gallegos and Jacob Huckabay drove-in the first and last runs for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros baseball team to send the seniors out with a 4-3 win over the Grand Canyon University Antelopes in the season finale on Saturday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium.

Gallegos started in right field batting fifth, marking his first appearance as a position player since his senior year at Hamilton High School, and the move paid off, as Gallegos came up with two on and two out in the first and doubled off the left field wall to give the Vaqueros (21-28, 10-14 WAC) their first run. Sophomore Victor Garcia Jr. followed with a two-run double to make it 3-0. The rally started when senior Cole Loncar drew a nine-pitch two-out walk and senior Correy Davis followed with a four-pitch walk.

Gallegos finished 1-for-3 with a walk and four putouts.

Huckabay hit a solo home run in the second that landed on an access road beyond the left field wall outside the stadium.

That made a winner of senior Matt Rigby (1-0), who, in his first start, pitched a season-high two innings, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out one.

He was the first of eight Vaqueros pitchers, six of whom pitched one scoreless inning. Sophomore George Lamb worked around a leadoff single in the ninth for his second save.

Davis, who started the game in left field, made his first pitching appearance since his freshman year at New Mexico Military Institute, striking out two while allowing two runs on three hits in one inning.

Antelopes (25-28-1, 14-13 WAC) starter Tyler Wyatt (2-5) pitched four innings, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four.
